More company info

Nowadays Yakutia's coal-mining industry focuses around the city of Nerungry and Yakutugol, a holding coal-mining company, the biggest and the most important one in the republic.

Yakutia's coal-mining industry is having its 55th anniversary in August, 2007, while this year there has been another anniversary – the 40th anniversary of Yakutugol.

The company started in March, 1966, after the USSR Ministry of Nonferrous Metallurgy issued the order concerning the opening of Yakutugol trust. The four-decade history of Yakutugol, thirty years connected with young Nerungry, left a wonderful memory about stuff's professional and personal feats and victories.

Yakutugol having appeared, Yakutia's coal-mining industry grew extraordinarily. Before this, coal-mining companies were managed by various departments, some isolated and hardly effective mines and sections worked. Yakutugol trust gathered together Chulmanskaya and Dzhebaricki-Haya mines, Kangalassky and Zyryansky and stabilized the industry. Intensive construction and reconstruction of mines began. The whole infrastructure began its development.

Inspecting the small Nerungri river in August 1950, G .Lagzdinoj's geological group discovered the "Five-meter" coal layer, as it was named after. Next year, geologist Minkin discovered the "Powerful" layer. His further study of the layer's volume revealed 450 million tons of coal. 1/2 of the deposits consisted of coxing coal. The Central Committee of the CPSU decided to put in action the Southern - Yakut coal complex in 1973. In order to support the complex, the USSR authorities decided to build an industrial city. Thus, Nerungri appeared on the map in 1975. Yakutugol, which had already worked for 10 years, became its main industrial enterprise.

Thousands people observed the birth of new epoch. Young, optimistic, and incredibly energetic specialists build the city, constructed the railway, raised dozens of industrial units. Nerungrinsky open pit-mine was opened in 1979. First super size dumpers BelAZ and foreign technical equipment were brought in 1977; this was the initial stage of unique motor depot formation. The coal concentrating factory which was begun in 1977 was completely ready for its work in 1984. The factory for repairing equipment maintenance was entered into operation in 1988.

1996-199 re-structuring of coal branch became a hard time for Yakutugol as well as for the whole country. However, due to such wonderful components as great personnel potential, miners' high level of professionalism, and their devotion to work and their love for the city, - Yakutugol left the period of economic depression with minimal losses. Moreover, headed by its present director general, Vladimir Petrov, the company managed to preserve its potential, keep old and bring up new professional stuff. The company management, with an active support from the republic authorities, chose the most successful strategy for company promotion.

The results of this competent work appeared starting the year 2000 and can be seen from the present success of the company.

Nowadays Yakutugol holding company is a stably working enterprise becoming one of the main cores of the republic economy and being the largest company in Yakutia and on the territory of Far East region. The volumes of coal production let the company to take the 7th place among Russia 's coal-mining companies. Still the company increases the volumes of manufacture constantly.

Yakutugol brand is well-known not only within the country, but also abroad. It has been more than 20 years Yakutugol is a reliable coal production supplier (of metallurgical concentrate and fuel coal) to the countries of Asian-Pacific Region.

Many large metallurgical companies of Japan , southern Korea , Taiwan use Yakutugol's concentrate. Nowadays many efforts are done in order to reach cooperation with China and India .

The further development of the company depends mostly on export. Analysts predict that the Asian market (in view of development of the coal-mining enterprises of other countries, such as Australia , Indonesia and others) by 2010 by will demand 7 million tons of Russian coal. Hence Russian exporters, including Yakutugol Company, will probably have an opportunity to expand the market of their production in APR.

Meanwhile, coal production deliveries for the Russian Federation companies, including republic's ones, grow. Last year's example: 45 pc of Yakutugol coal was purchased by Far East federal district, plus 14 pc - realized to companies within republic.

These days the company works on renovation of its equipment. To make an almost total modernization possible, the company involved 75 million USD of foreign investments. Sumimoto Corporation, which is a constant partner of Yakutugol joint-stock company, became the major investor.

So, Yakutugol had an unprecedented modernization of mountain technical equipment through the last 2 years.

For last two years at the enterprise modernization of park of mountain technics() has been lead(has been carried out) on scales. 27 super size BelAZ-75306 dumpers, 6 modern Komatsu automobiles, the republic's only giant elevating crane - Libher, 2 Pit Viper chisel machine tools, 2 PC-8000 hydraulic dredges were purchased, delivered and mounted. Another hydraulic dredge starts its work today, in the eve of Miner's Day. These machines, mounted and used in one place, altogether make the biggest and the most modern stock in Russian coal-mining industry.

Technologies change and become more and more modern, too. For instant, specialists from Neryungrinskaya concentrating factory discovered a new technology for concentration and dehydration of fine coal classes which doesn't involve traditional floatation. This new method, on one hand, improved the quality of production, and on the other, added economic benefit.

Modern machines made by leading mine equipment producers make it possible for Yakutugol to increase production volumes and raise the profitability of its own production. Besides, the stability of the company is backed by its professional stuff – experienced on one hand and on the other - ready to welcome young specialists. Thus, the company has big hopes for the future.
