The Day of Yakutsk
The Day of Yakutsk founded in 1632 takes place on the second Sunday of September. For this once the city celebrated 374th Anniversary on September 10, 2006
Many public events traditionally happen. The most exciting ones appeared to be a Russian celebrity Alena Sviridova's solo performance and 30-minutes firework.
In Sunday evening, despite of zero temperature, the Komsomolsk square was overcrowded. People wanted to see and listen to singer Alena Sviridova who arrived from Moscow to congratulate city-dwellers with the Day of Yakutsk.
In the early ninetieth Sviridova became popular in Russia with her hit ‘Rozovyi Flamongo' (‘A Pink Flamingo) and she managed to keep people's love. Thanks to MTT's sponsorship, she gave a concert in the capital of the republic.
A spectacular display of firework started at 10 pm and lasted amazingly longer than usual, for half an hour. The action was taken under police, emergency and fire-brigades' control. Fortunately, there were no victims of fired solutes.
During Sunday city-dwellers could visit ‘ Yakutsk is my inspiration' show on the same square. In other public places they might watch amateur concerts, children drawings competition, osuohai singer contest, ‘The Energy of Life' Youth Festival, the show of local producers, etc.
On the occasion of the Day of Yakutsk, a few parks, playgrounds and fountain ‘The Tree of Life' were opened.
In its turn, SakhaInternet Ltd determined the winners of Internet Festival 2006 (more about this virtual project here) arranged on the occasion of the Day of Yakutsk. Internet users competed in three nominations: ‘The best poem', ‘The best idea of city development', and ‘The best photographer'. Winners' pictures are available.
