The meeting of two masterpieces

Two masterpieces of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity met each other in Ulan Bator, Mongolia.

The official delegation of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) led by Andrey Borisov , republic minister of culture, presented the Yakut heroic epos Olonkho. For its turn, Mongolians demonstrated their unique technique of guttural singing. The event was conducted within the Days of Yakutia in Mongolia on July 26-28, 2006.

As participants said, the Days of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) allowed enhancing interregional cultural cooperation, and promoting the Republic.

55 Yakutians participated in the cultural program of the event, and the official delegation of the Republic consisted of 10 high-ranking officials.

On the first day, Yakutians met the Russian ambassador Boris Varukhin who explained the policy the Russian Federation carries out in Mongolia . This year is significant. 85 years ago, diplomatic relations was set between Russia and Mongolia . The representatives of Yakutia also met Mongolian artists and cultural workers.

The delegation attended at the ceremony of UNESCO Director-General Koichiro Matsuura's presenting the certificate of the masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity to President of Mongolia. Mongolian guttural singing was the object of such honor.

On July 27, the concert was held. It was a sort of presentation of two masterpieces, i.e. Olonkho and Mongolian guttural singing. The Yakutian part was also highlighted by Aitalina Adamova, the Evenk ensemble Gulun , Sakha Theater actors, the violinists of Virtuoso of Yakutia , and ethno musicians Claudia and Guerman Khatylaevs. Additionally, Mongolian spectators had opportunity to watch Vyacheslav Semenov's movie Old Man and attend an arts and crafts exhibition.

A member of the Yakutian delegation Michael Gulyaev, chairman of the Republic Sports State Committee, concluded the agreement on interregional cooperation with a corresponding governmental body.
