Gazprom to cooperate with Yakutia

The Gazprom Headquarters hosted an extended meeting of the Working Group for Cooperation between Gazprom and the Government of Sakha (Yakutia) co-chaired by Gennady Alekseev, First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and Viktor Timoshilov, Head of the Eastern Projects Coordination Directorate of Gazprom.

Present at the meeting were representatives of Gazprom’s subsidiaries – VNIIGAZ, Promgaz, Mezhregiongaz, Sibur, Gazprom invest Vostok, Gazpromregiongaz, Gazprom pererabotka, Regiongazholding as well as Yuzhno-Yakutskaya Corporation and the Regional Policy Institute.

The meeting considered issues of interaction between Gazprom and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) concerning the development of gas processing and chemical facilities in the region.

The meeting scrutinized the progress in the preparation for signing of a bilateral accord on gasification of the Republic. A focus was also placed on the synchronization of activities carried out by Gazprom and the Government of the Republic as part of the Eastern Program execution.

The Agreement of Cooperation between Gazprom and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) was entered into in July 2007. The Gazprom Working Group for cooperation with the Government of the Republic was set up during the same period.

At present, Gazprom doesn’t supply natural gas to Sakha (Yakutia).

The September 3, 2007 Order by the Russian Federation Industry and Energy Ministry approved the Development Program for an integrated gas production, transportation and supply system in Eastern Siberia and the Far East, taking into account potential gas exports to China and other Asia-Pacific countries (Eastern Program). Gazprom was identified by the Russian Government as the Program execution coordinator.

Pursuant to the Program, one of four new gas production centres of Russia is projected to be established in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). Implementation of the Eastern Program will enable to firstly satisfy current and future gas needs in Eastern Siberia and the Far East and to start exporting pipeline gas and LNG to the Asia-Pacific region.
