Vegetation has remained untouched
YAKUTSK. Yakutia is considered as one of a few places in the world, where natural growth has been not destroyed by human activity, professor Elgene Owen Box, chairman of International Association Vegetation Science, said at press conference on Aug. 7.
According to Pr. Box, the results of mapping vegetation in southern Russia, Asia and other countries of the world revealed that a great quantity of people who live in those regions, does not give vegetation a chance to grow naturally. The maps we worked on should show what kind of vegetation must be in those places depending on climatic conditions and other factors.
“In fact, thanks to human efforts, any natural growth vanished completely,” said Elgene Owen Box.
In his opinion, Yakutia is of keen interest of scientists, because forest and other vegetation have been preserved almost untouched. Besides, they grow in conditions of permafrost and that is the object of another research work.
