Expecting UNESCO Director-General
UNESCO Director-General Mr Koichiro Matsuura is expected to visit the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) in late July.
Preparation for the event was the topic of a scheduled organisational meeting of responsible people from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Embassy of Mongolia, UNESCO Office in Moscow, and leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Relations of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
A meeting was held on the Day of the Republic - April, 27 in the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) to the President of the Russian Federation in Moscow.
The participants of the meeting included the Executive Secretary of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO Mr Grigoriy Ordjonikidze, Second Secretary of the Department for Relations with the Federal Subjects, Parliament, and Social and Political Organisations of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr Alexander Popov, Acting Head of the UNESCO Office in Moscow Mr Dendev Badarch, Counsellor on Political Issues of the Embassy of Mongolia Mr Punsagdorjiyn Damdindorj.
The meeting participants were informed of the work on the preparation of the visit of Director-General by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms Vera Sidorova, and Co-chairman of the National Committee for UNESCO Ms Elizaveta Sidorova.
Mr Grigoriy Ordjonikidze and Mr Alexander Petrov expressed the readiness of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help in the organisation of the visit. Mr Dendev Badarch, having recently returned from Yakutia, spoke of the positive experience of Yakutia's co-operation with UNESCO.
