Belgium is ready to support the initiatives of Yakutia in interregional economical and cultural cooperation, said the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Belgium in the Russian Federation Vincent Mertens de Wilmars who arrived for five-days visit in Yakutsk on August 15, 2006.

According to the Ambassador, Belgium is willing to exchange teachers, process Yakutian raw materials, and cooperate in the area of communications. The main purpose of his visit is to participate in the celebration of the 10 th Anniversary of Alcatel & SakhaTelekom JSC Cooperation.

The Belgian delegation participated in the presentation of multi-service telecommunications network based on NGN technology, in the grand meeting of telecoms operators at the Russian Academic Theater, and in interregional scientific conference on the development of telecommunications and information technology on the board of river cruise ship Demyan Bednyj .

Besides, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Belgium in the Russian Federation Vincent Mertens de Wilmars have met the President of Yakutia Vyacheslav Shtyrov.
