Yakutian Buryats are very active
YAKUTSK. From June 30 till July 3, the city of Ulan-Ude hosted International Buryat Festival ‘Altargana'. Per diem there was VII Buryat Convention with participants from Inner Mongolia (Autonomous Region), China, Russia and other countries.
Yakutia was represented by Yakutsk Buryats Community, namely its president Elvira Sotnikova, her deputy Yuria Zayahaeva, and young leader Tuyana Andreeva-Shagdaron.
The objectives of the festival were to support the process of reviving, preserving and transforming traditional culture of Buryat nation, to display achievements in arts, literature, cinema, sports, and in social-economical development. There were many interesting events held within the framework of Altargana. For instance, artistic competitions and crafts exhibition.
Convention agenda included issues on forming and spreading the idea of spiritual unanimity as well as on educating young generation on basis of centuries-old traditions and culture.
Representatives of Yakutia took also part in scientific conference on preservation and development of traditional culture and national sports in polyethnic conditions. Yakutians visited National Theater of Songs and Dance, attended play The Spirit of Ancestors and sport competition Three Games of Men (horse race, national wrestling, archery). At the end of the festival, guests made a tour to Lake Baikal.
In the course of the visit, Elvira Sotnikova, president of Yakutsk Buryats Community, received a title Honoured Culture Worker of Republic of Buryatia. The activity of Yakutian Diaspora was marked as one of the most active Buryat communities.
