Rainy August of 2006
YAKUTSK. Last two August weeks occurred to be rainy as never before. Steady rains turned out to be disaster to the infrastructure of the city.
City roads couldn't stand under downpours. They were damaged and covered with potholes.
According to the city hall, by August 29 about fifty claims for waterlogging had been registered. 26 coutyards, 14 porches, 6 flats and 4 drainage gutters were flooded.
The main reasons of waterlogging, according to the city hall, are the absence of flowage in derivation canals, the lack of rainwater disposals especially in uptown.
In the beginning of the week, to pump water out, municipal authority attracted 32 pumping stations, 35 pumps, 35 moto pump, and more 60 special equipments. Effective assistance was also provided by workers of Russian Emergency Control Ministry and State Motor Vehicle Inspectorate.
A new span of steady downpours started on Monday and it's still pouring.
