Floods in Yakutia force more people to leave their homes
Floods in Russia's Republic of Yakutia have hit 814 houses. Twelve populated areas remain inundated. More than 3,000 people are staying in the flood-stricken areas.
Two and half thousand people have been evacuated from their flooded homes. Most of them have moved to relatives living in highland areas, 204 people have found shelter in evacuation centers, the press service of the Far Eastern regional center of the Russian Emergencies Ministry told Itar-Tass on Thursday.
At present, 21 temporary accommodation centers for 2, 382 people have been set up in Yakutia’s flood-stricken areas to cater for those who are in trouble.
The Russian Emergencies Ministry rescuers are on duty in flooded regions. They help evacuating the local residents and are also deliver food and monitoring the water levels. A total of 1,396 people as well as 205 equipment pieces, five aircraft and 45 boats have been called in to combat the floods.
