Seven hundred and sixty eight houses are still inundated in the Yakut village of Ytyk-Kyuyel in the Tatta district most severely hit by the flood in Yakutia, the republic's main department for emergencies told Itar-Tass on Saturday.
The water went out of more than 200 houses, but it is impossible to live there as the houses need repairing
A helicopter was sent to the Tatta district on Saturday to deliver one more batch of food products and other necessities. Villages in the district are short of food, medicines and drinking water. There is no possibility to deliver everything necessary by automobile transport because the flood destroyed roads and bridges.
The water in Ytyk-Kyuyel is going down very slowly -- only two-four centimetres a day, and it is still above the critical level.
The water goes down so slowly because the village is located on a low plain and the incline of the Tatta River bed is only 14 centimetres a kilometre, specialists said.
People all over Yakutia provide aid for villagers in the Tatta district hit by the flood -- funds are raised and accounts for donations are opened in banks.
Communication is resumed almost in all the villages in the district with the use of equipment of satellite channels, and in other areas, the work of radio-relay communication systems is resumed, according to the commission dealing with the flood consequences.
The Lena River level began to go down on Friday near the villages of Vitim and Peledui, where inundation was expected. It was 36 centimetres lower in 24 hours. However, rescuers remain there.
Yakutia's all rivers are being monitored.
