The meeting of two leaders – Vyacheslav Shtyrov and Georgy Balakshin
A Yakutian boxer Georgy Balakshin's victories do not surprise his fans anymore, but certainly his triumph makes people happy and more confident in the star's potential. Balakshin's third gold medal of the European boxing championship gave cause for the meeting with, perhaps, his main admirer – Vyacheslav Shtyrov, President of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
The meeting of two indisputable leaders – political and athletic, took place at the President's office in a very friendly climate. The reception was given in honor of Georgy Balakshin in his first personal coach Arthur Pakhomov's presence.
Journalists noted that the meeting was bearing a strong resemblance to their everyday job. It looked like the President was conducting an interview with the famous sportsman. Vyacheslav Shtyrov asked ‘Don't you think that the European championship takes place too often?' and everything else was in the same way.
The main interest of the President was what kind of difficulties the athlete is confronted by. Not so many problems were discovered. Balakshin assured the head of the republic that his generals sponsor, the diamond mining company ALROSA-Nurba, did the best to support him. Nevertheless, there is one discomfort. That is the absence of accommodation in Moscow where the boxer and his family are forced to lodge at his good friend's. The President promised to decide the question.
Guests were interested in searching the possibility of conducting the Russian boxing championship in Yakutsk . They claimed that it would be hard to convince the officials of the Russian Boxing Federation. V.Shtyrov said ‘Why?' Further he recalled how a few years ago the government of Yakutia exerted every effort to convince the Russian Wrestling Federation of the republic's ability to host the major national competition. Half-yearly negotiation resulted in the Russian Free-Style Wrestling Champ in summer of 2002.
Certainly, the friendly chat was not only about problems. What can males talk about? Apparently, about sports.
The President was curious about whether Balakshin was inclined to transfer from amateur level to professional. Latter said ‘If a good contract will be proposed, why not casting lots?' Personal coach Pakhomov added ‘Certainly, the transfer should be considered only after the victorious end of amateur career.' ‘And after Olympic triumph!' concluded Shtyrov.
Afterwards, they talked about the boxer's family, assessed constructing sports complexes in Yakutia, discussed the strength and capability of the Russian national team, compared the Cuban athletes of the past and present, complained about the age limit set in amateur league, and so on.
At the close of the reception, President Vyacheslav Shtyrov presented a memorable gift to the three times European champion , and wished him great sports success and family happiness.
