Fights between Yakutia and USA

YAKUTSK. Team match between Yakutia (Russia) and Oregon (USA) took place at Tuymaada Stadium on August 25, 2006. The event was arranged by Belyj Medved Club based in the capital of the republic.

The tournament that included habyr-hapsy and pankration fights started with hoisting three flags – the Russian Federation, USA and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), organizers' welcoming speeches and the performances of local hip hop stars Ruslan Ochirov and Jeada.

The event was special. It was a rare opportunity for organizers to display national fight habyr-hapsy. Americans appeared the first to try it.

There were four fights – 3 in habyr-hapsy and one in pankration.

In 68 kg category, 25-year-old Russian wrestling champ Ayal Pavlov lost to 16-year-old Oregon judo junior champ Jessy Li.

In the second fight, Yakutian master of boxing sports Murat Ardashev got a victory over judoist Stringer Jacob Thomas.

In the heavyweight category, a bronze-winner of Russian sambo championship Vasily Artamonov ( 120 kg ) managed to overcome judo wrestler Smith Mathew ( 150 kg ).

The pankration fight was arranged in 69 kg category. Oregon judo champ Filan Anthony defeated the Cup of Yakutia winner Yuri Atlasov.

The total result of team match is 2:2.
