500 million years ago the territory of today's Western Yakutia was close to the equator and represented the Cambrian Sea. The climate of the territory was subtropical. There, at the bottom of warm superficial sea, occured the first on the Earth vast (about 2,000 metres long) localization of reeves which reminded modern coral ones. After hundreds millions of years the drift moved this territory away from the equator. However, the climate kept being torrid. So, about 15 million years ago the territory of the Vilyui river basin included large ferns and dinosaurs, and Mammoth's Mountain area of Aldan - oaks and chestnuts.

In the summer of 1787 during the excavations of dwelling of the ancient human by the mouth of the river Kolyma the captain of the Russian fleet, the participant of geographical and astronomical expedition G.A.Sarychev found the tools of the Stone Age.

“Sarychev's excavations, - academician A.P.Okladnikov wrote, - represent the remarkable page in the history of the world's archeologic science. They were first excavations of ancient monuments of Arctic regions held with the real scientific purpose. They gave the start to the polar archeology as a science”.

The known historian, ethnographer and folklore specialist G.V.Ksenofontov held the very first detailed description of the drawings discovered in the area of the Middle Lena. The description made was with a geographical binding ang was published in 1927.

The biggest number of ancient rock drawing monuments was revealed in the Central and Southern Yakutia .
