The Arctic State Institute of Culture and Arts

On March 14, 2001 the Arctic State Institute of Culture and Arts was opened by a Decree of the Ministry of Education, Russian Federation. Andrey Borisov the honored worker of arts of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Russian Federation, the win ner of State premiums of the USSR and the Russian Federation, the main director of the Sakha Academic theatre named after Platon Oyunskiy was appointed as the rector of the Institute. There are 4 faculties, 12 departments in the structure of the Institute.

There are three creative groups at the faculty of performing arts: student's theatre, an opera studio, an orchestra of national instruments. Members of the opera studio have given a perform ance of the opera «A11 women act so» by Mozart. The orchestra recorded and released a CD-album which also includes music by Yakut composers, West-European and Russian classics. A competition of orchestras and ensembles playing on national instruments was organized for the children's musical schools in the Republic.

A student of the vocal branch — Anastasya Timofeeva — partic ipant of the Xth All-Russian open student competition of vocalists «Bella Voce», was awarded with a diploma entitled « Best musical performance by composers of the XX-th century » . The student of the 2nd course of the vocal branch — Vladlena Nogovitsyna — was the winner of the second prize at the 3rd International Television Variety Show for Songs «White moon - 2003».

Students from the Department for actors and stage directors participated in all the performances of the State Academic Russian Drama Theatre named after A.S.Pushkin and the Sakha Academic Theatre named after P.A.Oyunskiy. Mark Filippov, a students from the 3rd course of the same Department, received the first prize in the competition held in the Republic for readers among professional actors. This event was dedicated in memory of the 110th anniversary of Platon Oyunskiy.

At the Faculty of folklore and ethno-culture of peoples of Arctic regions, the ensembles presented a spectacular performance of ballroom dancing and modern dancing.

Students of the faculty on information, library technologies and management of culture have developed and opened a website of the Institute.

Scientific-practical conferences are organized and carried out by students and teachers.
