The E.M.Yaroslavsky Yakutsk State United Museum of History and Culture of the Peoples of the North
The museum exposition, opened in 1891, consists of the following sectors: natural history of the region, ethnography and archaeology, history of the region before 1917 and of Soviet period.
The museum has many expositions on the region’s nature, animal and plant life of taiga, forest-tundra, tundra and the Arctic zone of the republic, as well as the history of Yakutia from Palaeolith to present times.
The museum has thematic expositions “Kun Djohogoy Ogoto” (Yakutian Horse – a divine gift to the Middle World), “Great Victory”, dedicated to 60th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, “Gems of Yakutia” and many others.
By the beginning of 2006 the main museum stock contained 73,848 articles, scientific-auxiliary stock – 14,978 articles. Museum Director is Mr Shishigin Egor Spiridonovitch, candidate of historical sciences, associate professor.
