National Arts Museum
The National Arts museum of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is one of the oldest museums in north-east Russia. The collection of the museum contains yakut, domestic, foreign works of art of the XVIth - the beginning of the XXIst centuries.
The potential of the museum collections is inexhaustible. The themes of the exhi bitions are diverse: from classical art to experimental works of modern artists. The Museum has held many exhibitions, among them there are «Yakut pupils of the Imperial Russian Academy of Arts», «the Art - Sakha modern » followed by the contest «The Best product of the year», «The XXth century - a gift to the future » . The geography of the mobile exhibitions organized by the museum has considerably extended: from Sakhalin and Khabarovsk up to Moscow and St. Petersburg and to foreign coun tries. Annually the museum carries out 40 - 50 stationary and mobile exhibitions.
Since 1997 the National Arts museum of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) has entered the world museum community, being a member of the International Council of Museums ICOM. Since 2000 it is a member of the Council of representatives of the Museums' Union of Russia. During these years the museum has joined the joint inter-museum programs and projects, participat ing in large cultural actions. The mobile exhibitions from the cen tral cities of Russia and foreign countries are held. For example, the exhibition of photographic materials of the well-known Djezup expedition at the beginning of the XX-th century of the American Museum of Natural History in New York (2001).
Within the framework of the project of UNESCO «Culture of Peace in Russia» the museum acted as an organizer of the interna tional conference and a training seminar held in Yakutsk. Seminars on problems of museum work for art workers of the Republic and nearby regions were held in cooperation with the State Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery and the Fund of assistance to culture and arts in Central and Eastern countries (USA). The participants of seminars were given international cer tificates.
The International conference «Dialogue: a museum and socie ty» organized under the auspices of UNESCO, undoubtedly become an important event in the cultural life of the Republic. The event allowed to make contacts, to enrich plans and projects. The Museum has scheduled several perspective exhibitions: «Treasures of the Moscow Kremlin* which will present 120 unique examples of art and history of the XVI-XXth centuries, «Arts of Yakutia» to be held in 2005 in cities of Mirniy, Moscow, Samara and St. Petersburg, «Masterpieces of the State Tretyakov Gallery» devoted to the opening of a new museum building. The museum also participates in the realization of original projects of the State Russian Museum — «Three centuries of Russian art», «Growing by Siberia » . Joint exchange exhibitions with the museum of «Kolomenskoye», the Samara arts museum will be organ ized before 2010.
Scientific activity of the museum has resulted in the publica tion of collections of the Yakut art. Some scientific works are devoted to aspects of the museum work, problems of the general catalogue of the museum which includes 7 volumes. During the last five years the museum has issued more than 20 big and small albums and catalogues. |
