The State Theater of Humor and Satire

The State Theatre of Humor and Satire, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is unique in this genre in the Far East region. It was cre ated in 1990 as a variety theater of miniatures «Naara suokhtar» («Reckless») at the Yakut State Philarmonic Society. From 1992 to 1999 — State National Theatre of Variety of Miniatures «Naara suokhtar». After the year 2000 it was renamed once again to the State Theater of Humor and Satire of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

The inspirator and the founder of theatre is the art director, the national actor of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Alexey Pavlov. He is the winner of the first competition of actors of a conversa tional genre, first among the Yakut performers who became the laureate of the All-Russian Contest of actors in the satire genre.

In 2002 the theatre became the winner of an International Festival of Turkic-speaking theatres «Nauruz» in Kazan (Tatarstan), in 2003 — the winner of a theatrical festival in the Republic «a Desired shore ...» in the most prestigious nomination «For the best performance» — «Wanted for a child» by Platon Oyunskiy play, director — Valentina Yakimetz. In the autumn of 2003 the theatre was rated excellent at the XVth Cairo International Festival of Experimental Theaters (Egypt), having received nominations «the Best male part», «the Best female part», «the Best collective work» with the performance «Presentiment » — directed by Sergey Potapov. The theater was very successful at the International festival of street theatres in Tallinn (Estonia).

The theater organizes on an annual basis since 2000 a chidren's festival «Djiibe-djeebe ogolor». Since 2001 the KVN festivals for schoolchildren in the yakut language are held. More than one thousand children participate in these competitions annually. Since 2001 ceremonies are organized when prizes called «Brilliants of laughs» are awarded. In 2001, a literary competi tion «the Rainbow of Laughs» was held. Since 1998 the Children's Studio Theater «Naara suokhchaannar» operates.

A theater troupe includes 12 actors. Seven of them are gradu ates of the Moscow High Theatrical School in honor of Mikhail Schepkin. There are one People's Actor, two Honored Actors of Yakutia, one Honored Worker of the republic in the theatre.

Materna Pavlova, the Honored Actress of Yakutia, is the direc tor of the theater.The art director — the Honored Actress of Yakutia —Valentina Yakimetz.

The year 2003 was a happy year for the theater and has brought a lot of success. The theatre is full of new ideas and plans. In 2004 there will be new actors updating the troupe.
