Coal Industry

The amount of annual coal production in Yakutia is more than 11 million tons. There are the South Yakutian, Ziryansk, Lensk, Tungussky coal fields, and also a number of isolated fields.

One of the most perspective coal fields is Elga field, which has reserves of high quality cocking coal. The leading role in the coal industry belongs to YakutUgol JSC, that is the one of the main suppliers of coal products beyond the Republic and the large exporter of coal into the countries of ATP. About 8282.5 thousand tons of coal is exported beyond the Republic (75 per cent of the total production of coal), including export of 5286.4 thousand tons.

YakutUgol JSC started to realize general project on productive capacity increasing of the Neryungri quarry to 10 million tons of coal per year. Total cost of the project is 75 USD million.

Construction of Denisovskaya mine, by NeryungriUgol coal extracting company is go on. In 2004, 1.3 billion rubles was invested into new equipment, technology, holding of mine workings. Construction of such mine rigged by modern highly productive equipment with power – 3 million tons of coal for year was produced for the first time.

Business-plan of construction of sorting-briquetting production in the Kirovsky quarry has been elaborated, exploitation of its investment is being worked within the frame of development of the North coal extracting enterprises.

YakutUgol JSC has researched issues of procession of Kangalassky brown coal for organization of new produce production (such as sorbent, humate and other products of coal chemistry).

In 2004 work on realization of exploitation of the Elga coal field project is activated. Official acknowledgment on Elga coal quality conformance to world market requirements is received.
