In the twenty first century introduction of new technologies became a leading factor of market competitiveness, a major force of production and service effectiveness.

Scientific and technological potential is an accelerator of social and economical progress. In the present only knowledge based on science can help find the best way of solving problems and create the optimal conditions for reconstruction of economy.

Republic Sakha (Yakutia) has a sizable scientific potential. There is the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Academy of Science with six scientific institutes and eight associate institutes. There is also a division of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science with nine scientific institutes. The major coordinator of the agricultural science in the Sakha Republic is the Research Institute of the Agricultural Science, the division of the Russian Academy of the Agricultural Science.

The scientific research and experimental works in many areas of science and technology are done at the Amosov's Yakutsk State University and its institutes, the Yakutsk State Agricultural Academy, the Yakutsk Institute of Technology, and the Tchurapinsk Institute of Physical Culture and Sport.

In many years scientists of the Sakha Republic have created a great deal of scientific works. There have been accumulated plenty of works, many of which have significant importance theoretically as well as practically.

There are scientific schools in Yakutia well known in Russian and international scientific circles. Works of Yakutian scientists have been awarded State and Lenin Prizes, Prizes of Lenin's Komsomol and other prizes.

Works of scientists of Sakha Republic are widely used in many industries: designing and manufacturing of diamond instruments and tools, applications of diamond products in new, non-traditional areas (medicine for example); in biotechnology of manufacturing biologically active food supplements from plant and animal sources. Scientists of Sakha Republic have developed technologies of production of composite materials and undividable compounds on metallic, ceramic and polymer base; processing of raw and secondary materials.

Today in Sakha Republic are created good conditions for development of innovative infrastructure and economy of the region. Government of Sakha Republic has approved the Policy for science and technology and the Policy of innovations in the republic to the year 2010. There is acting Council for Policy on Science and Technology at the office of the President of the Republic Sakha (Yakutia), which together with the scientific community and the government determines priority directions of the science and technology development. It is also in charge of answering some questions about ways of bringing funds for the science and innovations in the region. To assist innovative actions in the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic Sakha (Yakutia) has been created Regional innovative-technological “Park Yakutia”.
