The Nomadic Schools

In Anabarsky distrcit

Following principals of natural, free people' development according to their ethno cultural and socioeconomic inquiries; principal of option allowing taking into consideration its diversity of possibilities of nomadic people in the spheres of education and life-activity in the state was founded ungraded experimental nomadic pre-school on the industrial base of generic community "Ulakhan Kyel" by Anabarsky state's enactment, 3/07/1995, № 129. A new school was opened in 1997.

1. "Ulakhan Kyel" is situated in 250 km from Saskylakh village in northern-east of prohibited state territory, at the shore of river Ulakhan Kyel. The school is situated at the edge of territory, where 11 hunter-families live. 6 families live in portable houses, 5 families live in the wooden. The majority of families have 3-4 children, needy full families. Average age of adults is 30-45, native-born people with a secondary education.

Parents help in school economy-life: stocking of coal and ice, school building repairing, general cleaning, in competitions.

Children are brought up in natural environment and in families, always help parents, study secrets of traditional hunting and fishing's skills.

Schools' social order: getting elementary education without separating from traditional life-style and family, getting specialist by traditional economy branch. School is a social-culture center, nomadic school condition corresponds to the structure and principals of teaching, saving traditions of family brining up, succession or traditions and customs, conducive to getting working skills.

Distance from state centre - 250 km

Size of the territory - 3414 square km

Main activity - hunting and fishing

Main transport - snowmobile "Buran" in winter, helicopter in other seasons.

Communication Using "Yasma" radio.

Tuprina Diana Innokentievna, primary school teacher, job seniority-26 year, 9 of then in this school, education-so-special. Has got 1st category of professional level, age-44. Average number of hours in 1 week-36. Has got charter of "Honourable education's worker of the Russian Federation"

The organization of educational process

Schedule of education program is nomadic. Subjects: federal components and national and regional components' subjects-ancestors' classes, health's hours.

Education process regime: the beginning of semester is 1/08, duration-34 weeks.

1st quarter 1/08-30/09

2nd quarter 9/10-30/11

3rd quarter 1/02-31/03

4th quarter 10/04-14/06

Holidays: winter from 1/12 to 31/01, summer from 15/06 to 31/07

In this period 21 pupils have graduated from this school and are studying in Saskylakh high school. School is included into UNESCO project.

Material and technical basis: Wooden building (56 square m), first aid post, 1-class room, teachers' accommodation, stove heating, electric motor, TV, computer and printer, music center, notebook, library (400 books).

Sport equipment: sport-module equipment, basketball rack, balls, equipments of the national kinds of sport.

Trustees: members of gender community (5peoples), the chairman Androsov Vadim Egorovich (the head of community).

2.1 Results of the experiment's 3rd final stage:

1. 1/08/2005-finished 3rd final stage of an experiment of Ulakhan Kyel, nomadic ungraded school, which carried out all goals.

2. Full girth of native-born nomadic families' children with elementary education, without separating from traditional life-style and family.

3. The further final year students' receipts of national economic agricultural specialties.

2.2 Experiment's period and stages.

I (1996-1998) – preparatory search

II (1998-2000) – structural

III (2000-2005) – organizing

2.3 Carried out goals and missions are:

- school's schedule of work showed its accordance to rigorous climate as 2-mounth holidays, decrease the catarrhal diseases, reduce the passes and truancy of school studies.

- teaching and education without separating of traditional way of life, family, traditional work skills have positive tendency; all children bear the extreme conditions of tundra and rigorous climate well, know how to be in extreme situations, adapt itself to the difficult everyday conditions, become self-possession, patient and steadfast. Almost all the boys like fishing, girls-needlework, and among of them have athletics rates, major in painting and signing.

Children feel itself a part of native, constant contact with native give them such characters as observation, dependability, sensibility, kind-heartedness. Children starve for tundra, want to acquire a specialty of agriculture branch.

2.4 Data

Yearly children's health survey shows sickness absence of catarrhal diseases.

School graduates:

*Tuprin Vasily Il'ich-first graduate, has 2 professions, computer serviceman and tractor-bulldozer driver.

*Migalkina Shura, student of the Yakut State technical institute, specialty- “Design and modeling”

*Tuprin Kesha, student of the Yakut State University, mining faculty

*Androsova Masha, school tutor, is coming up to pedagogical college, want to be a teacher of nomadic school.

*Popov Kostya, came up to Agricultural Colleage, hunting expert.

*Vinokurova Ira, came up to Yakutsk Pedagogical Colleage №2, tutor.

Four of them have decided on nomadic way of life, hunter. The first new family showed itself, keeping the ancestors' customs.

Ylakhan Kyel nomadic school has facilities for the experiment of the noospheric ecological education system of education and teaching as ungraded and native-congruity are conditions of personal-reference trajectory and child evolution dynamics.

State Board of education intends to continue the experiment in new period of 2006-2012.
