Balagan Taas Volcano

Back

At Momsky National Park one of the most remarkable nature monuments is Balagan Taas Volcano. Its cone-shape appearance resembles the balagan (an ancient Yakutian house). It is situated on the right bank of the Moma river.

Parameters: 190 m in height, 1200 m in circumference at basis, about 150 m in diameter at crater, 20m in depth. Firstly the Balagan Taas was described in 1939 by the geologist V.A.Zimin.

The volcano erupted many times. The last time it happened about 10 thousand years ago. Nevertheless, Balagan Taas is considered as the youngest volcano in Yakutia.
