Seismic risk and 'bombing'
Back
Earthquakes are typical to Yakutia . 30% of seismic-dangerous Russian territories are allotted to the republic. In 1957-1980 seismic stations determined more than 7000 earthquakes with different intensity. The most heaviest seismic attack was fixed in the Olyokma-Stanovoy seismic zone in southern Yakutia.
The oldest evidence of “bombing” Yakutia by the gigantic meteorites is the Popigayskaya hollow situated on the Anabar Shield northern slope. It is considered to be the biggest meteorite crater in the world and not it is under the UNESCO control. The ancient crater, formed 36.7 bil. years ago, is about 100km in diameter.
