The biggest percent of the lake area in the world is allotted to Yakutia (2.4% total area), while in the world it is 1.8%. The total area of the republic lakes is 70844 ha. The big amount of lakes (98.43% in amount and 50% in area) is characterized by the small area of the flat-water (less than 100 ha) and by depth less than 2-3m. The ratable reservoirs of the water in these lakes are not less than 250-300 cu.m.

The biggest lake in Yakutia is the Mogotoyevo . Its area is 323 sq.km; length is 34 km, width – 15 km. It is situated in Allaikhovsky region to the north-west from the Indigirka mouth. The other big Yakutia lakes are smaller: the Nerpichye – 237 sq.km, Ozhogino – 157 sq.km, Nidzhily – 119 sq.km.

The deepest lake is the Sebyan-Kyuyel in Kobyasky region (137m).

The lake Achanyr- Kyuyel is in the coast of the Laptev Sea . Its area is about 40 sq.km. The inhabitants call it the magic lake . With the wide 100 –meter float Achanyr-Kyuyel units with another smaller in size lake. This float is covering with ice only in the end of December and melting in April already. If they pierce a hole in the icy lake, the water will shoot up from it in the 100-meter fountain. It is said that many years ago there had been the hill on the Anchanyr-Kyuyel place that was covered with the rare in the tundra thick vegetable. The geologists explain such a magic: the happen whenever deep earth dislocation broke the hill, and on its place the afloat appeared, and through the formed fissures the hot gas shot up on surface
