The first meteorological researches were made in 1736 by I. Gmelin.

The first daily three time meteorological researches of the air temperature in Yakutsk the staple A.N. Neverov had been making in 1825-1854 . The naturalist A.F. Middendorf wrote: “The ordinary yakut merchant raised himself the eternal monument in the history of sciences, not noticing it”.

The record temperature minimum in Yakutia is –71.3º C, maximum - +38.8º C . The maximum seasonal temperature overfall disparity is more than 100º C, the daily – more than 30ºC.
