Nashe Vremja (Our Time)
Weekly republic newspaper
Founded in 1995. Started as an independent newspaper with private investment. It is common knowledge that the periodical used to be supported and funded by oppositionist Fedot Tumusov.
A newly-fledged Nashe Vremja (NV) immediately deserved readers' love. It became in favour for its short-spoken news stories and bold viewpoints. In the beginning and even after Mr. Tumusov's withdraw from business in 2001, NV tried to position itself as the oponent to any authority.
The situation changed in 2005. The editorial board admitted that it was too hard for newspaper to survive on its own. For that reason, NV had to acquire a new major investor - the administration of the Yakutsk city, the head of which appeared to be a constant opponent to the government of the republic. Newspaper policy was corrected immediately. Now NV is more loyal to the City Hall and confronted to republic authorities.
Nevertheless, NV remains being one of the most popular periodicals.
Awards: The Newspaper of the Year (The Journalists of Yakutia Union, 1999), the winner in nomination "The media of a new generation" at Russian Mass Media Festival (2000).
