This region is the largest federal subject of the Russian Federation. Area is up to 3,103,200 km². Located in North-East Siberia, but belongs to Far Eastern Federal Districts. Cadaster number is 14.

According to the 2002 census, total population was estimated at 949,280 people. As of Jan. 1, 2008, Yakutia had 951,436. At that time, 619,568 gave preference to towns, and 331,868 to life in country.
