Republic's scientific base includes:
- 20 academic scientific institutions of the Yakut Scientific Centre within Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences,
- The Sakha Republic (Yakutia) Academy of Sciences,
- Yakut Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture within Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences,
- Yakut Scientific Centre within Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and the Government of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia),
- 5 higher education institutions,
- 5 branch institutes of geological prospecting, construction, education, and healthcare.
2,450 people are involved in scientific and research activity, including 139 Doctors of Sciences and 430 Candidates of Sciences.
Scientific research of Yakutian scholars mainly deals with specific Northern issues. Two of the unique institutions are Melnikov Permafrost Institute and Institute of Problems of Indigenous Peoples of the North.
Infrastructure of innovative system of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) is presented by multi-access scientific equipment centres, technologies transfer centres, technical parks of Ammosov Yakutsk State University (the YSU Technopark and the Three Valleys), intellectual property registration institutions, and technology centres. The Yakutian Business and Technology Nursery is functioning, launched by the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) Small Businesses Support Fund.
546 innovative production technologies were introduced into Republic's economy, 342 of them in natural resources development.
