Children of Asia Sports Games

National sports

It is a very significant part of Yakut culture. Khapsagai wrestling, stick tugging, Yakut national jumps - kyyly (eleven jumps on a jumping leg), ystanga (eleven jumps switching legs), and kuobakh (eleven jumps on both legs).

International event

The first Children of Asia International Sports Games were held in Yakutsk in 1996, the year of the modern Olympics centennial; the Games are held by the Olympic cycle. About 2,500 young athletes from over ten Asian countries and 26 Russian regions participate in the competitions in 18 kinds. The IV Children of Asia International Sports Games will be held in Yakutsk, Neryungri, and Mirny on June 3-14, 2008.

The idea of holding the Children of Asia International Sports Games belongs to the first President of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) Mikhail Nikolayev. The Games allow young Asian athletes to meet with each other on the sport grounds and feel the spirit of healthy competition; they install respect and tolerance for their rivals.
